France - Canal du Midi - part 3

Our destination today was Carcassonne. We moored along the bank as you come into town rather than in the port. We set off on foot to see some of the sights. We would leave the famous Cite de Carcassonne for tomorrow on our bikes but there are lots of other things to see before then. We walked passed the St Martial Bastion which was built in the 1500s during the Wars of Religion to replace the medieval fortifications in the city, then down what we thought might be the main street. This ancient chapel of the Carmelite Convent built in the gothic style of the Languedoc Region, was first to catch our eye.
